Happy Hour With Snap Forward – June 30th, 2016

This week’s topics include:

The Furries Are Back

Anthrocon loves Pittsburgh and we love them. We discuss the levels of furry fandom and how fully they embrace their alter fur egos. Does it include adopting the bathroom habits of the creatures they are impersonating?

Windows 10 Won’t Be a Free Upgrade For Much Longer

As of July 29th, Windows 10 will no longer be a free upgrade for those who have Windows 7, 8, or 8.1.
If you’re planning to upgrade first check to make sure that your applications are compatible with Windows 10. One big conflict we are finding is that Windows 10 is not compatible with Internet Explorer 10. It requires Explorer 11. Another issue is that some older computers have been running into trouble when downloading Windows 10 due to their storage or video drivers being incompatible. Often times it makes more sense to wait until you upgrade your computer to upgrade your OS.

The Mysterious Phantom Windows 10 Upgrade

One woman went so far as to sue Microsoft claiming that her OS was updated to Windows 10 without her permission and as a result caused her computer to crash repeatedly and become unstable. Despite the lack of proof on her part Microsoft still paid her a $10,000 settlement fee.

Facebook’s Ever-Changing Algorithm Has Morphed Again

You will probably begin noticing more Facebook posts from your friends and relatives these days and less from Facebook Pages. This won’t affect Facebook Page shares, however FB Pages are less likely to be shared if they’re never seen in the first place. Another notable difference is that profiles with more posts and less interaction will become less visible over time. So if you want your posts to have the best chance of being seen it’s better to post less often but curate your content more carefully so each post is well received by your audience.

Does Less Accessible = More Successful?

We discuss Michael Hyatt’s podcast, This Is Your Life and his theory that making yourself less accessible will lead to greater success. At Snap Forward we like to follow the mindset of “plan your procrastination”. In other words, choose to put things off that are not going to lead to the more rewarding results. But that doesn’t mean completely disregarding the less significant meetings and events, just scheduling them for a time when they will better serve your main objectives.

Remember When Pagers Were Cool?

Our age is showing. Luckily today you can send an apologetic text to tell someone and politely explain that you aren’t currently available. We discuss why it’s ok to avoid most phone calls during your work day and return them at a scheduled time that doesn’t interfere with more important tasks.
