Happy Hour With Snap Forward – July 14th, 2016

This weeks topics include:

5:40 – A Woman is Bullied Because of the Outfit She Wore to a Wedding Reception and Creates an Instagram Campaign for Kindness

Liz Krueger, a fitness coach from Minnesota, was shocked when she was harassed and bullied by other females at a wedding reception she attended. She was slapped on the butt and had beer purposely spilled on her by the women who were targeting her. Liz turned the negative incident into a positive when she took to Instagram and created the movement #kruegerkindness to encourage women to share stories of how they lift each other up daily.

7:47 – Mac Malware is Real

Macs can get Malware, contrary to popular belief. One way this can happen is by installing software called the “Easy Doc Converter”. Upon installing the program the user will find that it does not work and then uninstall it. What they don’t realize is that the program has actually installed hidden software behind the scenes on your Mac and will access your data, camera, etc.. It can also monitor your activity including keystrokes which could reveal your credit card numbers. Scary stuff!

11:24 – The Windows 10 Free Upgrade Ends Soon – Is It Worth It?

If you run a business it most likely does not make sense for you to upgrade to Windows 10. The complications that may arise make it impractical for your business to go through the process of upgrading. If your main goal is productivity with less stress then our recommendation is to hold out with your current OS (which is likely still supported by Windows) and wait until the time comes to upgrade your computers to also upgrade your OS.

14:57 – Muddy Waters, The Pittsburgh Oyster Bar Not The Musician, Is Our New Favorite

This Oyster Bar that resides in East Liberty has caught our eye due to the mouth-watering images on their instagram feed. We love finding new restaurants to try in Pittsburgh and new excuses for “cheat” days.

17:34 – Google It

Google told NBC News that they want you – and the world – to stop using Google as a verb unless you actually used Google’s search engine to do so. This is due to the risk of their name becoming synonymous with search engine services and can lead to genericization of the trademark. Becoming generic is bad, obviously, because it threatens a company’s legal right to a trademark. We agree, but for a company with such significant brand recognition, this argument may be too little too late.

20:15 – #NerdAlert – NASA’s Space Station Feed Abruptly Cuts Off After Mysterious Object Appears

On July 9th UFO spotters saw something unusual on the International Space Station’s live feed. A large object appeared to enter Earth’s atmosphere right before the video feed cut out. You can watch the video here. The truth is still out there.

23:21 – Pokemon Go

If you must play, play safe. Don’t become one of the odd stories surrounding the new Pokemon Go craze such as the two poor guys who fell off of the edge of a bluff while playing.

Beers of the Week:

Nick – Brooklyn Defender IPA
Brandy – Ommegang Gnomegang Blonde Ale
